Personal Statement

As a communication student, majoring in Public Relations, I have a strong passion for storytelling and audience engagement through digital platforms. I have built a strong foundation in Public Relations, with a focus on strategic communication, crisis management, and media relations during my time at Thompson Rivers University.

During my studies at Thompson Rivers University, I have had the chance to develop my communication knowledge through course projects. Specifically, I have been developing communication plans, crisis management plans, writing press releases, and creating social media content. Additionally, working as a Social Media Ambassador and Student Library Ambassador provides hands-on experience. I have strengthened my public speaking skills, interpersonal skills, and multicultural communication skills when working in diverse teams and communities. I have shown my ability in creating multimedia content that balances audience engagement and business goal alignment, as well as personal creativity. These experiences assist in understanding audience behaviour, content preferences, and strategic communication for different audience groups.

The projects in this portfolio demonstrate how I apply my course knowledge to real-world projects to gain hands-on experience, with the ability to combine both creativity and strategic thinking into my work. Each piece depicts my understanding of reputation management, crisis communication, and stakeholder relations. These projects showcase my ability and knowledge in both academic and practical ways, illustrating my skills and hands-on experience to complete these pieces with effective outcomes.

I am pursuing opportunities to work in a professional environment in the Public Relations and Communication fields. With my skills, knowledge, and experience from the program and work at Thompson Rivers University, I can contribute to content creation, audience and community engagement, social media management, and brand communication. I am eager to continue learning, developing skills, and gaining more experience in this field. Moreover, my portfolio pieces reflect my Institutional Learning Outcomes at Thompson Rivers University of Connection, Engagement, and Local-to-Global perspectives.
